In February 2016, the Musée des Confluences passed the million visitor mark, one year after its opening in the heart of Greater Lyon.

A unique architectural vessel at the confluence of the Rhône and its main tributary, the Saône, the museum is part of the continuity and evolution of Guimet‘s collections, combining natural history, an insight into society and contemporary art exhibitions, with numerous musical, theatrical and cultural collaborations.
The stated aim is to provide an entertaining and artistic educational experience, “the confluences of knowledge”, as well as serving as an architectural landmark at the gateway to the city. It is associated with the crossings of the two rivers and forms an urban ensemble with the bridges. The “confluence” garden links the promenades established on the banks of the Saône with those along the Rhône in the new urban planning style of the ecosystem city.
