From the A7 motorway at Coudoux, theA8 motorway, known as the Provençale, runs along the Mediterranean for 230 kilometres to the Italian border along the ancient Via Julia Augusta.

Continuing theA7 motorway from Lyon and branching off to the south-east towards Marseille, the Southern Alps and Italy, the A8 is managed by the Autoroutes Esterel, Côte d’Azur, Provence, Alpes(ESCOTA) company.
Nicknamed La Provençale, it stretches for 230 kilometres from Salon-de-Provence and Aix-en-Provence to the Alpes-Maritimes department.
